Jesus Fucking Christ

I can’t go on, just kill me now, god and sonny jesus.

Via Augie, and I don’t even wanna fucking know what she was doing surfing around for MS-Pr0n, jesus, my eyes, it may well take me a while to get over this one, in fact I may just have to break into spontaneous grown-up straight-mail non-teen-beat oriented good ol’ surfing for tits after this.

My eyes, to repeat. Good god-a-mighty, my eyes.

Bob Baird

Long long ago... actually it was before you were born... I had an Altair personal computer. Man, I was the cat's banana with that boat anchor. Anyhow, I typed in the entire text of TinyBasic into my trusty Altair from one of the early Byte mags...and saved to thing onto tape. It was a miniature edition of Basic that Gates published to the heathens when he was at college (I'm assuming that he just stole the thing from Dartmouth. It looked like a class project.) Ah, the good old days! Anyhow, the damned thing crashed when I tried to compile it.

After two weeks (!) of debugging I found what was wrong with the thing and got it to work on the Z80 in the Altair. Worked fine. I could use Print, Let, If...Then, and the arithmetics. And a JUmp just to retain the root. Powerful stuff in a day when a 16K register was considered the bigtime.

I wrote a fix and sent it to Byte and our boy Bill sent me back a nice letter with a much improved fix of his own in Z80 assembler. He made nice code, but was a memory hog, even in those halcyon days.

Some thing never change. Now he's waving his package at the teenagers. When was that picture taken anyhow? Where did I go wrong? I never got laid for kludging code. Sigh.

Now, Bob, I think you underestimate just how old I am. I do pre-date the Altair, at any rate.

Microsoft always did make good compilers. I cut my teeth on TI/BASIC, and was amazed once I started working with GWBASIC back in the mid-80s, right before I went to college. They really should've stuck with making compilers.

Those pictures, by the way, were probably in late '85, by my reckoning. You've got a Mac in the background, and that PC looks like it's running Windows 1.01, which was first released in 1985. Bill Gates was born in 1955. He was 30 years old when those pictures were made. Incredible.

zonker

Could be worse, Rube....she could have been searching for nude pictures of Ballmer.
